In 2008, the Haunted Temple was launched as a fundraiser to support the efforts of the Bay Arts Council to maintain and restore the Historic Masonic Temple. In January 2017, the Friends of the Historic Masonic Temple assumed full responsibility for the Historic Temple building and the Haunted Temple program. Over the years, the Haunted Temple has evolved into something much more than a mere fundraiser. Today the Haunted Temple is a multi-media theatrical event put on by Bay County youth. Student participants work all year and are involved in every aspect of the theatrical presentations. They begin the year by doing researching and developing a theme and coming together to brainstorm and list all of the ideas and build the floor plan for the entirety of the shows. From there, they are involved with concept and scene design as well as writing the scripts for the performances. The students are involved in every aspect of the events from props, costumes, makeup, acting, and production, to striking the set and cleaning the building. This program is growing and each year it becomes more of an arts education activity that we can provide to area youth for free. The Haunted Temple is part of the 501(c)3 nonprofit Friends of the The Historic Masonic Temple.
